How accurate is the AI tutor?
In a blind test, the AI model behind the AdmitNurse tutor answered 434 of 461 science questions correctly. The questions come from two openly licensed OpenStax textbooks, not from the TEAS. The model saw each question and its options, never the answer key.
- 434 of 461answers matched the textbook’s answer key
- 94.1%overall score, 95% range 91.6% to 95.9%
- 93.3%Anatomy and Physiology, 335 of 359
- 97.1%Biology, 99 of 102
How the test worked
- Model tested
- Gemini 2.5 Flash by Google (model ID
google/gemini-2.5-flash), the model the AdmitNurse AI tutor uses for chat. - Questions
- 461 single-answer review questions from the ends of chapters: 359 from OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology and 102 from OpenStax Biology. 459 have four options, one has three and one has five.
- Blind setup
- The model received only an instruction, the question and its options. The answer key was never sent.
- Instruction sent
- “You are a candidate taking the TEAS-style science course questions (anatomy, biology, chemistry), not official TEAS exam. Choose the single best option. Reply with only the option letter.”
- Settings
- Temperature 0, so the run can be repeated. Output limit 4,000 tokens.
- Scoring
- One attempt per question. An answer is right when its letter matches the key printed in the book’s own Answer Key. A reply that could not be read would count as wrong; there were none.
- Run
- One run on October 11, 2026, 21:45 UTC. The API cost for all 461 questions was $0.0126.
- 95% range
- 91.6% to 95.9% (Wilson score interval). It shows how much the score could move by chance with a sample of 461 questions.
Same model, different setup in the app
The AI tutor in the app runs on the same model, but at temperature 0.5, with its own tutoring instructions, and it writes full explanations instead of a single letter. If Gemini does not reply, the tutor retries with a backup model, DeepSeek V4 Flash, which this test did not cover. The test checks answer letters, not the explanations the tutor writes.
Results by book and by science area

| Biology | 100 of 103 | 97.1%91.8 to 99.0 |
| Chemistry | 20 of 20 | 100.0%83.9 to 100.0 |
| Scientific method | 6 of 6 | 100.0%61.0 to 100.0 |
Areas follow the book chapters: chapter 2 of each book counts as chemistry, chapter 3 of Anatomy and Physiology (the cell) as biology, and chapter 1 of Biology as scientific method. The small numbers under each score are its 95% Wilson range; small groups such as chemistry (20 questions) and scientific method (6) have wide ranges.
What the test cannot show
- These are not TEAS questions. They are end-of-chapter review questions from two OpenStax textbooks, picked because they cover TEAS science topics. They are not ATI TEAS items, and the result does not predict a TEAS score.
- Science only. Reading, math, and English and language usage were not tested.
- Coverage is uneven. Most questions are anatomy and physiology (332) or biology (103). Chemistry has only 20 questions, and scientific reasoning (measurement, lab tools, experiment design, graphs) is barely covered, with 6 basic scientific method questions. Questions that need a figure were left out.
- One question type. Every question has a single correct option. The official TEAS also uses alternative item types.
- The model may have seen these questions. The books have been online since 2013, so the questions may be in the model’s training data. It may score lower on new questions.
- Keys are used as published. Every answer is scored against the key printed in the book, even where that key looks doubtful.
- One run, one setup. The tutor in the app runs with different settings (see above), and the test does not check the explanations it writes.

Sources, license and record
The questions and answer keys come from these textbooks, licensed under CC BY 4.0:

Changes: review questions were converted from the PDF to plain text, option letters were capitalized and punctuation was simplified in 3 items (dashes replaced). Only questions with a letter in the book’s own Answer Key were used, and questions that need a figure were left out. The answer key is the book’s own.
