TEAS science study guide: connect the concept to the question

Short answer: Organize science review around human anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry and scientific reasoning. For each topic, explain the concept, apply it to a question and then change a condition to check whether you can use it in a new situation.

Use the science outline as your boundary

The science section has 50 total questions, of which 44 are scored, with 60 minutes of testing time. These are exam figures, not counts of questions in our product. ATI’s outline identifies the science areas; use it to check a study topic before spending time on an unrelated chapter.

Human anatomy and physiology is the largest science subarea in the outline, but it is not the whole section. Keep biology, chemistry and scientific reasoning in the plan. Do not turn a familiar textbook chapter into a claimed exam requirement without checking the outline.

Ask a different question in each area

  • Anatomy and physiology: connect a structure to its function and trace how parts of a system work together.
  • Biology: explain a cell process or inheritance model and state the assumptions in the example.
  • Chemistry: interpret the particles, conditions and units before choosing an answer.
  • Scientific reasoning: identify what changed, what was measured and what evidence supports the conclusion.

Move from a correct answer to an explanation

Try the original membrane-transport examples. Before opening the answer, state which condition controls your choice. After reading, explain why a tempting alternative fails. Next, change the starting condition and solve again. This is a suggested way to examine your reasoning, not an official TEAS scoring method.

For a diagram question, identify what each label represents before interpreting a relationship. For a data question, read the units and groups before comparing values. If the item does not supply enough information to distinguish the options, record the ambiguity instead of inventing an assumption and memorizing the key.

Make a review plan from actual errors

Keep an error log with the topic, missing concept and next action. Rotate through the science areas while spending additional time on recurring gaps. Add timed practice once you can explain the untimed reasoning. An arbitrary number of study weeks or a repeated-question score is not proof of readiness.

Official TEAS includes alternative item formats. Current AdmitNurse single-answer practice does not simulate all of those interactions. Review official format guidance as well as subject content. See the section guide and study-planning guide.

Can you separate the experiment from the explanation?

Practice identifying variables, spotting a confound and choosing what the observations actually support.

Try the reasoning before choosing access

Use free TEAS practice to inspect an explanation. Account practice includes saved work, missed-question review and an AI tutor; see current access options. Ask the tutor to explain a step, then check the response against a reliable source. AI responses can make mistakes.

AdmitNurse is independent of ATI and nursing schools. Our practice items are original, not released exam questions. Current single-answer practice does not reproduce every official TEAS interaction, and our practice results are not calibrated to official scores.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are all science questions scored?

No. The science section has 50 total questions, with 44 scored. The remaining questions are unscored pretest items.

Does this guide cover every possible science question?

No. It gives a review method and links to the official outline. A short guide or our practice set should not be treated as exhaustive coverage of every possible item.

Does AdmitNurse reproduce all official TEAS question types?

No. Current practice uses single-answer questions; review ATI’s official format guidance for alternative interactions.
